Recommended coffee intake. How much it must be?

We all use caffeine: with coffee, tea or other foods. At the same time, no one can yet say recommended coffee intake a day. The researchers tried to understand this issue.

In the US appeared a new brand of coffee “Black Insomnia” and they call this product “the strongest coffee in the world”. They advise using coffee with caution. One cup of this coffee exceeds the limit of caffeine per day.

It is generally accepted recommended coffee intake limit is 400 milligrams per day. It reported by the US Food and Drug Administration and the International Food Information Council. 400 milligrams is about four cups of coffee or one big glass from Starbucks.

Where did this restriction come from and how seriously we must concern it?

The researcher (Esther Myers) believes that it’s pretty serious. She and her colleagues from the International Institute of Biological Sciences (USA) are studying the safety of caffeine. Myers thought, if not obsolete, so often referred to in the dose of 400 milligrams of caffeine a day. For the first time, it appeared in a study conducted in 2003.

The team Myers re-analyzed the data after having studied more than 700 studies. They tried to find out what dose of caffeine negatively affects health. The side effects mentioned included problems with the cardiovascular, locomotor system and reproductive system.

Researchers came to the conclusion that for a healthy person, 400 milligrams of caffeine really a safe daily dose. Recommended coffee intake for pregnant women  is 300 milligrams.

Higher doses of caffeine associated with the risk of various diseases – from depression and dysphoria (a condition opposite to euphoria) to anxiety and increased blood pressure. So, 500 milligrams of caffeine a day is dangerous to drink?

“No,” says Myers. – In many ways, everything depends on how a particular person reacts to caffeine. We do not yet have criteria for identifying those who are particularly sensitive to it. ”

The most important conclusion made by the researchers is how less we know about this spread drug. Until now, here no single-valued data on how changes the effects of caffeine, depending on when and how often we consume it. So while we only have an approximate idea of what not to do – overdo it. For most people, 400 milligrams of caffeine a day is safe, but no a fact that it is completely harmless.
